BLEPHAROPLASTY (LOWER AND UPPER)

Over time, the skin and other structures, such as the eyelids, become relaxed and weakened. This leads to excess skin with the subsequent formation of fat sacs that rest on the eyelids, giving that look of tired face or constant sleep. These changes are evidenced by the accentuation of skin folds or depression originating in that region.

BLEPHAROPLASTY

It is the procedure that corrects these changes, removing excess skin and reducing fat bags, making the eyelids flatter and smoother, giving the face a more cheerful and rested appearance.

This procedure can be performed both on the upper and lower eyelids, respecting the anatomical limit, so as not to produce large skin retractions.

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA

It can be performed under local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation and rarely general anesthesia.

ADMISSION TIME

Normally, it takes 12 hours when local anesthesia is performed with sedation, but it is up to the physician if it is necessary to extend the hospital stay.

POSTOPERATIVE

The formation of edema and ecchymosis (hematoma) is common and can vary in intensity. They usually go away in a week or two. In an attempt to reduce the intensity and time of this reaction, we can apply gels and cold gauze with saline solution in the eyelid region, in the first two days after the procedure. It is important to avoid heat in the region, such as hot baths, cooking, as they favor edema and bleeding. The sun should be avoided for at least 3 months (sunglasses).

COMPLICATIONS

They are rare, but we can mention: bruises, infections, stitch opening, ectropion (lower eyelid reversal), apparent sclera, upper eyelid retraction.

FINAL RESULTS

It usually takes 6 months to see the final result, but in the case of blepharoplasty, with 3 months, you can see 80% of the final result.
