RHINOPLASTY

Nose surgery is one of the most performed surgeries in plastic surgeons' offices, due to the aesthetic insecurities it causes in patients, generating low self-esteem that can affect the patient's daily life.

During the consultation, different types of anatomical changes can be observed, these can be aesthetic and/or functional. It is important to identify and evaluate them to perform the surgical technique corresponding to the patient's type of nose.

The nose is a complex structure and presents great variations between individuals, its correction consists in achieving a visual harmony corresponding to each case. This technique allows solving respiratory problems in the same surgical procedure. (septumplasty, turbinectomy).

It is important to mention that each person has a different nostril, therefore, when modeling the format, the best version of yourself will be sought, achieving a structure that is pleasing to your general view.

THROUGH RHINOPLASTY THE FOLLOWING IS POSSIBLE:

Modify the size and shape of the nose.
Modify the diameter and length of the nostrils.
Change the angle of the upper lip in relation to the nose.
Correct any birth defect or any nasal injury.

Solve respiratory disorders (functional purpose of surgery)

In specific patients, Rhinoplasty can be combined with the correction of the septum (cartilaginous and osseous partition). The main symptom of septum deviation is nasal obstruction.

Usually, the problem is only internal, however, in some people it is even visible externally, presenting a crooked nose appearance. In these cases, it is corrected and the aesthetic appearance of the nose is improved, this is called Rinoseptumplasty.

HOW IS RHINOPLASTY PERFORMED?

There are two techniques for performing this surgery, and these are: closed or open.

OPEN RHINOPLASTY:

A small incision is made at the base of the nose, between the nostrils and the inside of each nostril. This technique is mainly indicated when there is a need to make large corrections in the nasal tip.

However, this can be done with the closed Rhinoplasty technique, however, the choice of the most appropriate surgical modality for the case will be left to the surgeon's discretion.

CLOSED RHINOPLASTY:

It is a technique where the approach is performed inside the nose. The surgeon works in smaller areas than the open technique, however, it has several advantages.

As this modality is more agile and dynamic, the end result is a nose with a more natural appearance, as well as its recovery is faster compared to the other modality mentioned.

The great advantage of closed rhinoplasty is the fact that it doesn't have the scar at the base of the nose, but inside it.

However, it is worth mentioning that the choice of modality is at the discretion of the plastic surgeon.

RECOMMENDATION

It is indicated for patients who present disproportions and/or lack of harmony between the nose and the face.

TYPE OF ANESTHESIA:

Generally, the most used anesthesia is general anesthesia. However, local anesthesia combined with sedation can also be used.

It is worth mentioning that in general anesthesia the patient will be intubated during surgery.

The duration of surgery varies according to the case, but usually between 3 and 4 hours after surgery.

ADMISSION TIME

The operated patient is discharged on the same day, in some cases, when the surgery is associated with another functional pathology, he may remain hospitalized for 12 to 24 hours.

POST-OPERATIVE

Right after the surgery, the patient will use a plaster or rigid structure for 7 days and also an adhesive tape for another 7 days. The use of both is aimed at reducing edema caused by tissue manipulation.

It is common for the patient to feel some discomfort due to swelling and inflammation. Usually, bruises appear on the nose and eyes, these will disappear around fifteen days after surgery.

The edema can be residual, that is, it can remain for up to 6 months, it is likely that the patient will temporarily lose sensitivity in the nasal tip, this effect will pass as he recovers.

It is important to avoid any type of nasal trauma for 2 months, as a bone fracture is performed, any type of trauma can lead to loss of structure and damage to the result.

Heat should be avoided, very hot baths, sunbathing, wearing heavy glasses, etc. As this can accentuate the swelling.

COMPLICATIONS

They are rare, but the following can be mentioned: postoperative bleeding, accidental trauma, nasal obstruction, asymmetries and aesthetic problems, temporary hard and rigid tip.

FINAL RESULT

This is achieved between six to twelve months after surgery, but in the first month some changes can be observed.
