MASTOPEXY WITH OR WITHOUT PROSTHESIS

Breasts after puberty are hard and firm. Over time, the glands are replaced by fatty tissue and the tendency to sag (ptosis) increases. Situations such as pregnancy or excessive weight loss accelerate this process, another point to keep in mind is that the skin with age loses elasticity and tone, increasing the descent of the breasts.

Mastopexy or breast elevation aims to reverse this process, the technique is performed by suspending the breast and removing excess skin and gland. In this same surgery, the size of the areola can be corrected for those patients with disproportion. If your breasts are small and saggy, using an implant along with mastopexy can increase firmness and size.

There are different techniques for correcting breast flaccidity, so each specific case will be evaluated, explaining the reason for choosing the technique.

ANESTHESIA

An epidural is usually used with sedation or general anesthesia.

HOSPITALIZATION

It is a well tolerated surgery, requiring between 12 and 24 hours of hospitalization.

POSTOPERATIVE

The patient should stay away from physical efforts for 30 days, avoiding lifting the arms in the first 25 days. The use of the surgical bra must be at least 2 months. You can usually drive again after 30 days, as long as your surgeon authorizes you. The return to sports activities is usually within 2 months.

It is normal for scars to be red in the first few months, it is an evolutionary phase that all patients must go through, but then, next year, it starts to lighten and becomes genetically predisposed.

COMPLICATIONS

Complications, although rare, are generally: hematomas, infection, temporary loss of areola sensitivity, hypertrophic scar or keloid, opening of stitches, slight asymmetries, thrombosis, dehiscence.

FINAL RESULT

Around 3 months after surgery, the breast produces a concavity in the lower pole, a product of the prosthesis housing, remembering that this lower pole is rectified in the immediate post-secondary period.

From 6 months to the first year, you can expect a result that is close to definitive, remembering that the breast is an organ that constantly changes due to its hormonal receptors and weight fluctuations.
