It is the extraction of excess body fat through suction cannulas, using special surgical equipment.

WHICH IS?

Liposuction is a surgery to shape the body, although it is possible to reduce some of the body weight, it is not a weight loss surgery.

It is important that the patient who is going to undergo the procedure understands that, after the surgery, he must maintain an adequate weight so that the effect produced by him lasts over time. Diet and regular physical activity are necessary tools to more quickly reach the objective sought with the surgery, remembering that the biggest change is in the silhouette and not the scale.

It is important to know that, with liposuction surgery, the surgeon will be able to remove between 5% and 7% of the patient's body weight, evaluating each case in particular.

WHICH REGIONS CAN SUBMIT THIS PROCEDURE?

Liposuction can be used to shape the areas below the chin, neck, face, arms, breasts, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees and calves.

RECOMMENDATION

Patients who want to remove localized fat or define some region of the body. As long as they are close to the weight for their height (BMI).

ANESTHESIA

Local anesthesia, local anesthesia with sedation, epidural and general anesthesia can be used. The anesthetist will evaluate the most appropriate method for each patient.

ADMISSION TIME

It varies from 12 to 24 hours, depending on the magnitude of liposuction.

POSTOPERATIVE

There is usually edema (swelling) and ecchymosis (change in skin color resulting from bruises). These symptoms usually resolve within 20 to 30 days.

During the first month after surgery, the patient shows a marked improvement in the edema, hardening in the liposuctioned regions, a product of internal scarring. Around the 2nd and 3rd month, the hardening improves and there is a greater skin retraction. An abdominal brace should be worn for 2 months to help shape the body. It is very important to start with lymphatic drainage after the seventh postoperative day and, if necessary, ultrasound after the 21st postoperative day. This is to reduce edema, improve hardening and speed recovery.

The surgeon will instruct you to place a subcutaneous anticoagulant for 10 days after the operation and to wear an elastic compression stocking for 13 days.

POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS

It is a surgical procedure and complications may occur such as: edema, inflammation, ecchymosis, fibrosis, thrombosis, embolism and irregularities in the treated areas.

Fluid accumulation (seroma) is the most common complication of major liposuctions. In the case of large quantities, for resolution, lymphatic drainage will be punctured and/or performed. There is usually a very good recovery, without leaving sequelae for the patient.

EXPECTATIONS / FINAL RESULT

The new body image will start to appear in the first weeks, remember that, in the first few days, edema, typical of body manipulation and inflammatory reaction, predominates. The improvement will be more visible in 4 or 6 weeks, reaching a result of 80% between the 4th and 6th month after surgery. Regular exercise and healthy food intake can help maintain your new silhouette.
